Wrap Up Newport: A Heartwarming Coat Campaign 2024

As the chill of winter sets in, the need for warmth becomes more pressing in our communities. This year, Newport has once again demonstrated its incredible compassion and generosity through the "Wrap Up Newport: Warm a Heart Coat Campaign 2024." With the unwavering support of residents, businesses, and organisations, we are proud to share that a total of 668 coats were collected and redistributed to those in need, spreading warmth and kindness across the city.

The campaign, led by Gem Walker, Newport Support Network Service Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at Community Connect Newport, was hosted at the Community Hub located at 92 Commercial Street, NP20 1LS. Starting in early November, the initiative called on locals to donate gently used coats and outerwear for adults and children alike. This effort was not just about providing physical warmth but also about fostering a sense of community care and solidarity.

"Each coat donated represents more than just an item of clothing—it's a gesture of kindness and hope from one neighbour to another," said Gem Walker. "The response from our community has been truly heartwarming, and it's amazing to see how much we can achieve when we come together."

 A Collaborative Effort

Once the collection phase ended, a dedicated team of volunteers worked tirelessly to clean, sort, and prepare the coats for distribution. Partnering with local shelters, organisations, and community groups, the campaign ensured that every coat reached individuals and families who needed them most. This targeted outreach approach allowed Wrap Up Newport to make a meaningful impact on those facing challenges during the colder months.

The community's involvement was extraordinary. Residents dropped off coats at the Community Hub, while others organised neighbourhood collections or workplace drives. Local businesses also played a crucial role by hosting collection points and encouraging their employees to contribute. This collective effort created a palpable sense of unity and shared purpose throughout Newport.

"We're incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by everyone involved," said Tariq Khan, Director and Project Manager of Community Connect Newport. "This campaign is about more than just keeping people warm—it's about showing care and support for one another during difficult times."

 A Message of Gratitude

As we celebrate the success of this year's campaign, we want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who contributed—whether by donating coats, volunteering time, or supporting in other ways. Each act of kindness has made a tangible difference in someone's life this winter.

While Wrap Up Newport 2024 has officially concluded, the spirit of giving doesn't have to end here. There are countless ways to continue supporting those in need throughout the season—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply reaching out to check on neighbours who might need help.

Together, we've wrapped up Newport in warmth this winter. Let's carry forward this momentum of kindness and community spirit as we strive to make Newport a place where everyone feels cared for and supported.

Thank you for being part of this heartwarming journey!
