We’re delighted to share some fantastic news from Newport Support Network CIC — our organisation has been successfully awarded both Capital and Revenue grants through the 2025 Direct Food Support Fund, backed by Newport City Council and the Welsh Government.

This vital funding totals £8,000 and will help us significantly expand our capacity to support families and individuals across Newport facing food insecurity. As food poverty continues to affect more people, especially in vulnerable and diverse communities, our ability to respond quickly and sensitively is more important than ever.

The £5,000 Capital Grant will be used to:

Install new commercial-grade freezers
Improve our storage with durable racking systems
Refurbish hygiene and safety features at our food distribution site
The £3,000 Revenue Grant will fund:

Inclusive, 2–3 day emergency food parcels catering to vegan, vegetarian, halal, and general diets
Volunteer-led cookery and budgeting workshops
Food parcel ingredients that are usable, familiar and culturally sensitive

This initiative is rooted in real dignity. We want to ensure that those facing hardship receive food that feels normal, familiar, and nutritious — not just a tin of soup. Through our Emergency Meal-Ready Food Parcel project, recipients can make actual meals with clear recipe cards and minimal cooking facilities.

We're incredibly grateful to Alun Prescott and the Community Regeneration Team for their support and belief in the value of this work. Their commitment to empowering local organisations is helping to build a fairer, more resilient Newport.
