Introducing Our New Self Referral System

Newport Support Network CIC
May 07, 2026By Newport Support Network CIC

At Newport Support Network CIC, we spend a huge amount of time helping people navigate the different food and support services available across Newport.

Every week we speak to people who are confused about:

foodbanks
community pantries
referral vouchers
opening times
eligibility
where to go for help
and how to access emergency support
One thing we hear regularly is how stressful and overwhelming it can feel trying to obtain referrals or vouchers when someone is already struggling financially, emotionally or socially.

That’s why we’ve decided to trial a new low barrier self referral system.

A Simpler Way To Ask For Help
We’ve introduced a quick QR code self referral form for individuals and families needing short-term emergency support.

The aim is simple:

reduce barriers
reduce stress
improve dignity
make support easier to access
No long forms.
No complicated process.
No professional referral required.

People can simply scan the QR code and complete a short form to request support.

What Support Can Be Requested?
Through the form, people can request:

emergency food parcels
baby essentials
toiletries & hygiene products
household essentials
culturally appropriate food
halal food support
information about our wider community services
Why We’re Doing This
Like many organisations, we recognise that traditional referral systems can sometimes create additional pressure for people already facing hardship.

We also know many individuals struggle silently and may avoid seeking help altogether because the process feels too complicated or intimidating.

Our hope is that this new system helps make support:

more accessible
more trauma informed
less stigmatising
easier to navigate
while still helping us understand local need and demand within our community.

Minimal Information Collected
We only collect limited information needed for:

safeguarding
service planning
anonymous monitoring
funding reports
The form also helps us better understand:

household demand
dietary requirements
cultural food needs
areas most affected by the cost of living crisis
