A Huge Thank You – From the Heart of the Community Local Kindness, City-Wide Impact Across Newport, Wales

Across Newport, acts of kindness — big and small — are shaping lives every single day.

This month, we’ve seen an incredible wave of generosity from Asda Pillgwenlly, its customers, and the Asda Foundation. Their support has strengthened our work across Baby Basics Newport, Newport Food Bank, Newport Soup Kitchen, and the Newport Multibank.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lucy Miles, Community Champion at Asda Pillgwenlly, and to every customer who chose to give. Your donations are helping families, children, and individuals at moments when support matters most.

Although these contributions were collected in Pillgwenlly, their impact now reaches across the whole of Newport — a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together with compassion and care.

Local kindness. City-wide impact.

Supporting Baby Basics Newport
We’re delighted to share that Baby Basics Newport now has an official donation trolley at Asda Pillgwenlly.

This simple addition is already making a meaningful difference.

If you’re able to pick up an extra baby essential or toiletry during your shop, your donation will go directly to local families who need support. Baby Basics Newport operates from both Pillgwenlly and Newport city centre, ensuring help is accessible where it’s needed most.

Your kindness helps parents facing difficult circumstances feel seen, supported, and valued.

Feed Newport x Asda Pillgwenlly: Community in Action
Shoppers at Asda Pillgwenlly will also notice the Feed Newport donation trolley — a lifeline for many people in our city.

Feed Newport has supported the community for years, providing:

Hot meals
Food parcels
Essential support
to people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, or crisis.

You don’t need to donate a full shop to make a difference.
One item can provide a meal, warmth, or dignity.

Suggested donation items include:
Canned goods (soup, vegetables, beans, tuna)
Dry staples (pasta, rice, cereal)
Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant)
Baby essentials (nappies, wipes)
Every item stays in Newport.
Every donation supports a neighbour.

A £600 boost for community support
We’re also proud to share that the Asda Foundation has awarded £600 to Newport Support Network CIC.

This funding helps us continue our mission to:

Uplift families
Strengthen communities
Provide practical, dignified support where it matters most
A huge thank you once again to Lucy Miles, whose dedication to community action has made all of this possible. Her commitment reflects the very best of what local partnership can achieve.

At the heart of the community — for all of Newport
These moments of generosity are more than donations.

They are statements of belief:

That no one in Newport should be left behind
That compassion still drives us
That community action works
Thank you to everyone who has stood with us.
Thank you for choosing kindness.
Thank you for helping us build a stronger, fairer Newport.

Together, we are proving what community can do.
